about

Min morfar han gjekk seg i Holaskog
(My grandfather went into the Hola woods. )

This song is based on one of my great grandfather's many encounters with the troll folk. In this particular case, it wasn't actually a troll he met.
He fights off this shadowy creature and begs for his life. He ends up fleeing the scene. The next morning we(the audience) learns that it was in fact a funny looking tree stump he came across.

-Anette

lyrics

Norwegian Lyrics:

Min morfar han gjekk seg i Holaskog
Ladidadidadidadida
Med øksa på skuldra og støe fot
I dystre skumringskog.

I skogen der såg han en skugge så stygg.
Ladidadidadidadida
Med langtynne fingre og krymbøyd rygg.

Et ikkje meg å huldrefolk
Spar mitt, spar mitt liv.
Ta mine sko, mitt gull og min øks.
Men spar meg huldrefolk.

Og tre bustehoder i vinden lo
Ladidadidadidadida
Med naser som leita tå kristenmannsblod.
Og morfar tok skjelvande øksa si fatt
Ladidadidadidadida
Og hogg etter trollet og sprang deratt
I dystre skumringskog.

Et ikkje meg å huldrefolk
Spar mitt, spar mitt liv.
Ta mine sko, mitt gull og min øks.
Men spar meg huldrefolk.

I duggvåte mose stod sola på gløtt
Ladidadidadidadida
Og skuggen i skogen var stubbe med øks.
i blanke morgon ljos
Og tre mosetuer var hodene tre.
Ladidadidadidadida
Og langtynne fingre var kvist på ei grein.
i blanke morgon ljos

English Lyrics:
My grandfather when into the Hola woods
ladidadidadidadida
With his axe on his shoulder and a steady pace
In the dark twilight woods

In the woods he spotted a scary shadow
ladidadidadidadida
With long fingers and a hunched back
In the dark twilight woods

Please don´t eat me huldre folk
spare my life , please spare my life
Take my shoes, my gold and my axe but
please spare my life

And three bushy heads in the howlig wind laughed
ladidadidadidadida
With their noses they sniffed after christen blood
My grandfather tok hold of his axe with shaky hands
He hit the creature, and ran as fast as he could
In the dark twilight woods

Please don´t eat me huldre folk
spare my life , please spare my life
Take my shoes, my gold and my axe but
please spare my life

In the morning dew on the moss the sun glimmered
ladidadidadidadida
And the shadow in the woods revealed itself to be a three trunk with an axe in it
In the bright morning light
And three patches of moss was the creatureś heads
And its fingers where branches and sticks
In the bright morning light

Please don´t eat me huldre folk
spare my life , please spare my life
Take my shoes, my gold and my axe but
please spare my life
